Living Walls Project
Status: In Progress
Living walls, also known as vertical gardens or green walls, represent a key component of urban green infrastructure that brings biodiversity and natural beauty into urban environments.
Project Vision
I want to leverage the LSU Student Sustainability Fund to create a living wall on campus.
What Are Living Walls?
Living walls are vertical structures that incorporate vegetation into building facades or interior spaces. They provide numerous benefits:
- Environmental: Air purification, temperature regulation, stormwater management
- Aesthetic: Natural beauty in urban spaces
- Biodiversity: Habitat for urban wildlife
- Health: Improved mental well-being and air quality for urban residents
Technical Approach
I’m going to be doing a proof of concept in Sturgis Hall. I would like to install a planter with a trellis, the Autodesk Fusion link to the model is attached here for your convenience.
It will be 8ftx1.5ftx1ft in dimension, and have 4ft tall posts to hang mesh/chicken wire/drill wood into for the actual trellis structure itself. I will grow monstera up the two sides, and grow pothos in the middle parts.
Goals
This project aligns with my broader vision of bringing natural beauty and green space to urban environments, addressing the disconnect between city-dwellers and nature.
